    Meet the Shepherds Bounty Family

From left to right in the photo:

    Branden Via

Branden left his factory job to farm full-time after marrying Cora. He is deeply involved in livestock care and daily operations at BC Cattle Company in West Virginia.

    Dr. Cora Via, DVM

Cora is a veterinarian with a passion for food-animal health. She and Branden raise cattle, sheep, and pigs, and she manages animal care on all our farms.

    Wrenle Via

The youngest member of the family, Wrenle already shares her parents passion for animals—representing the next generation of stewardship.

    Kevin Moyers

Kevin grew up on a fifth-generation farm in the mountains of West Virginia. He works as a mechanical engineer in a paper mill and manages Twilight Farms in Hot Springs, Virginia, where all Shepherd’s Bounty cattle are finished on pasture.

    Kim Moyers

Kim grew up on a Virginia farm and later became a nurse practitioner. Her background in healthcare and agriculture shapes Shepherd’s Bounty’s focus on nutrition, food quality, and family health.

    Emily Mohler

Emily is an occupational therapist with a strong interest in health, nutrition, and land stewardship. She and her husband Plynn operate Brushy Bottom Farm in Goshen, Virginia.

    Plynn Mohler

Plynn manages livestock, equipment, and maintenance at Brushy Bottom Farm while also serving as caretaker for another local farm.

    How We Farm

Our farming practices are guided by a simple principle: healthy soil is the foundation of healthy food.

We use rotational grazing to move cattle frequently across our pastures, allowing grasses and legumes time to recover and regrow. This improves root depth, increases plant diversity, and builds organic matter in the soil. Instead of relying on chemical inputs, we work to strengthen the natural biology of the land.

On land that was previously farmed in continuous corn and soybeans, we began by planting diverse cover crops. Cattle grazed those fields while naturally fertilizing the soil and incorporating plant material back into the ground. Over time, compacted and depleted soils were restored and replanted with perennial grass and legume pastures.

Today, our cattle are raised and finished on these nutrient-rich pastures. The result is healthier animals, better forage utilization, and beef that reflects the quality of the land it comes from.

We believe the old saying is true: you are what you eat. We would add—you are what your food ate.

    Why We Do This

Though we each have our own farms, we all work together with one shared mission:

To be wise stewards of God’s land, to be faithful shepherds of His livestock, and to provide the best meat possible for his people.

When you choose Shepherd’s Bounty, you’re buying beef raised by a real family—one committed to caring for the land, the animals, and the people we serve.

    OVERHEARD ON THE FARM 👂

    • Is your meat antibiotic free?

Farm animals, like humans sometimes do get sick.  When that happens, we work closely with our staff veterinarian to devise an appropriate treatment plan which may include antibiotics or steroids. We carefully follow manufacturer's recommendations for dosage and withdrawal time to ensure that our animals recover quickly and that there is no residual in the meat that you purchase.

    • How much freezer space will I need for a bulk beef share?

      1/8 Share - 2-3 cubic feet

      1/4 Share - 4-5 cubic feet

      1/2 Share - 7-8 cubic feet

      Whole beef - 15 - 16 cubic feet

    • Are your animals 100% grass fed?

No.  Our animals spend their entire life on pasture.  They are never confined in a feed lot.  However, we do supplement them with a small amount of grain for several months during the finishing process.  This approach provides the advantages of both feeding systems.  Allowing the animal to consume a wide variety of different plants makes the meat more nutritious.  The added grain provides more energy and allows us to finish the animals at a younger age than typical 100% grass fed beef.  This enhances tenderness.  The grain also provides a richer, more consistent flavor.
